This unusual Napoleon III style mantel is made of cast iron. The front of the entablature is adorned with intertwined curlicue foliage inhabited by Phoenixes and grotesques, with a small central character. The imposing jambs bear candelabra sculpted in high relief. They are crowned with putti set in small niches. The one on the right plays the cymbals; while the one on the left, with a mask in his hand, seems to symbolize the performing arts.
The original sides, made of plaster, are missing. The shelf is in Vert de Mer (Sea Green) marble.
