This large stove in enamelled ceramic is quite exceptional. Made in the 19th century in France, this stove is decorated with ceramic tiles in shades of blue on a white background. The painted decoration of Neo-Renaissance inspiration is extremely rich, and includes grotesque figures, chimera, bucolic landscapes, birds, vases filled with flowers, and foliated scrolls. In the middle of the upper lintel is a representation of Aphrodite on her chariot. Terms and putti are also represented in the decoration.
This decoration in shades of blue on a white background is not dissimilar to that of Delft earthenware.
The decoration is signed "A Jean".
