Louis XVI style mantel carved in statuary Carrara marble in the second half of the 19th century. The entablature presents a central panel decorated with a scene of putti and a fire pot, also adorned with garlands of flowers. The jambs are composed of detached quiver shaped columns resting on square bases. This mantel is based on the one installed in the Château de Fontainebleau in Marie-Antoinette's Silver Boudoir designed by the architect Pierre-Marie Rousseau in 1786. This is his first major work for the court. The use of statuary marble gives the mantel a particularly sumptuous appearance.
This fireplace comes with an antique cast iron insert adapted to this fireplace but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
