Excellent condition. Slight accident on the faience inside.
The sides are in painte plaster.
Since Antiquity, Black marble has been extracted from different quarries in Dinant, Namur and Mazy, in Belgium. The uniform black color of the Belgium Black marble distinguishes it from French Black marbles, which always are spotted or veined with white or grey. The Belgian black marble was greatly in fashion during the 18h and 19th centuries, when, although very highly priced, it was used for fireplace mantels, clocks and statues. Sculptors greatly appreciate the quality of its shine.
