This Louis XIV style chimney was carved in Black Marquina marble in the 19th century. The molded shelf tops the lintel and jambs, which feature large grooves and moldings. The overall simplicity of the design enhances the quality of the marble.
The Marquina Black marble used here takes its name from the town of Marquina, where the quarry from which it is extracted is located. The marble used for this mantelpiece has large veins of white calcite, enhanced by the sobriety of the ornamentation.
This mantel is sold with its original black-painted enameled insert and with its marble floor, which is broken but will be restored in our workshop.
