Louis XV Breche d'Alep marble mantel from the late 18th or early 19th century
Carved in a very warm colored Breche d'Alep marble, this mantel is a very rich example of the Louis XV style. Resting on block feet, the canted jambs are delicately curved and rise up to scrolled heads. A large Rococo heart motif surrounded by volutes of leaves adorns the center of the curved entablature ; the rich darker shade of marble at this spot adds extra focus to this motif. The shelf follows the curve of the entablature.
