This Louis XV-style fireplace is carved in Carrara marble. The marble's qualities enabled the sculptor to work out the details of the fireplace's motifs, particularly the finely carved central palmette. The palmette is surrounded by symmetrically rolled acanthus leaves and scrolls, highlighting the central sculpture. Sculpted moldings follow the curved shape of the band, caused by a wider center and thinner ends.
The top and bottom of the leg are scrolled. The sides of the leg are adorned with volutes. On the top of the leg, a palmette takes up the entire surface of the console part and protrudes into the frame created by the moldings. On the console part, the leg is curved and decorated with moldings. Acanthus leaves rise vertically from the scroll at the bottom of the jambs.
The fireplace has its original cast-iron interior, adorned with repeating crosses and piquant shapes. On the lower sides, arches, foliage, and scrolls blend symmetrically.
This fireplace is sold with its original cast iron insert but without any marble floor. This one could be made to order (please ask for marble availability).
