Louis XVI style fireplace mantel from the 19th century in a marble with a pink base and rusty red and purple veins. Scrolled and fluted jambs leading up to square rosettes. The frieze has a central decoration of filleted flutes.
The marble of this mantel is called Skyros, a pink marble from Greece, with different shades of purple violet veins. This piece is however most particular. On the left part of the shelf, the structure of the marble changes and the color changes to yellow and shows a structure that is characteristic of Brocatelle marble. Such a mix of marbles in one block of stone is a mystery and makes this mantel into quite a remarkable piece.
