The front stones are cracked (see pictures). The top side stones of the overmantel have been gouged for electrical wires. These can be restored.
Stately 16th century Renaissance fireplace mantel with elegantly simple decor of Doric columns and a plain entablature and cornice in hard stone from the Parisian region. Reinstalled in the early 20th century, a stone overmantel was added with at its centre a 16th century Renaissance stone niche.
The Renaissance fireplace could be used without the overmantel. The overmantel probably originally had a top cornice which is now missing.
