Gold leaf gilt and "bronzine" painting.
This Louis XVI style overmantel pierglass was made during the 19th century.
The mirror is finely framed with gilt moldings and crowned with a large medallion in which are painted in grisaille three putti.
While two putti sleep together, a third one tries to disturb this quiet sleep by tickling them with an ear of corn.
This sweet and childish scene is inspired by the eighteenth taste for the bucolic life: putti are surrounded by roses and the medallion is decorated with laurel branches knotted in their center.
