The subject is 'the Great Mogol". The chinoiserie is a caracteristic of the Louis XV style. A lot of chinoiserie was designed by Boucher, adapted also to furniture, objets d'art, materials, and porcelain. A very similar fireback with the same dimensions is in the Musée d'Orleans.

Victoria is framed by scroll and acanthus leaf motifs.

This small fireplace is remarkable for its fine, regular details. The band is adorned with a finely carved geometrical frieze featuring curving circular motifs and small scrolls. The console part of the leg is square, divided into four identical faces. Leaf and flower motifs are repeated on the sides of the console section, creating continuous friezes like those on the band. The rest of the cylindrical base is divided into several elements, with a geometric Greek frieze at the top and two undulating friezes framing the smooth shaft. The base, with its fine, curved plant motifs, echoes the square shape of the console. The end of the base terminates in three squares superimposed in ascending order. A floral motif is in the center of the fireplace, and two symmetrical compositions of curling leaves are on either side.

At the moment of becoming a Compagnon, the skills acquired by a young aspirant are assessed through the execution of a reception piece known as a chef-d’œuvre (masterpiece). This small edicule stands on six colonettes set upon a two-tier walnut base. The front of the structure features the initials of the aspiring Compagnon, “DF,” integrated into an openwork design in the Flamboyant Gothic style. The crowning element, with its exposed timber framework, is a true tour de force, bearing witness to the technical mastery attained by the future Compagnon.
