"Venus Asks Vulcan to Cast Arms for Her Son Aeneas" - Louis XVI period overmantel in carved wood

Rare Louis XVI style and period overmantel in carved wood, with a modern gilding. The upper part is decorated with a garland of flowers. Both sides are sculpted in form of pilasters, with roses, ribbons, quiver, sword, spear, helmet and griffin. A perl friez fram an oil on canvas figuring "Venus Asks Vulcan to Cast Arms for Her Son Aeneas" and an original mercury mirror.

Julien-Nicolas RIVART (1802-1867) - Purple velvet Folder decorated of porcelain marquetry

Bibliographie : Marc Maison et Emmanuelle Arnauld, Marqueteries virtuoses au XIXe siècle : Brevets d'invention. Rivart, Cremer, Fourdinois, Kayser Sohn et Duvinage, Dijon, Faton, 2012, p. 37. This velvet-covered folder is lined with moire fabrics on the inside. It has two compartments on each side and a matching file. Realized by Julien-Nicolas Rivart , it is decorated with a porcelain inlay painted in imitation of flowers, a branch of lilacs accompanied by white flowers, probably bindweed. The purple velvet background particularly emphasizes the porcelain's delicacy, and the liveliness of the colors. Through skilfully mastered range of hues, the painter was able to give an illusion of depth, creating the impression of a real branch of lilac laid on the folder.

Series of four earthenware bas-reliefs, "Putti fishing", late 19th century

This series of four bas-releifs was made of earthenware in the late 19th century, the artist or the factory are not identified even though one of them is bearing the monograme "EB". Each panel depicts a polychromatic decoration in frieze inhabited by putti sailing on the sea and hunting with harpoons and nets some marine monsters and fishes. On one of the bas-relief, five putti are on an boats, two of themn are huntinf with a trident a big dimensions fish, while the others are occupieds net fishing. On the two others, of one the boat is attacked by marine mosnters looking like dragons and sea horses. Armed with harpoons and arrows, the putti are fighting, keeping the boat on sea and riding the aquatic creatures. Finally, on the last frieze, the putti seem to be coming back from fishing, bringing back the boats on the ground with the net filled with fishes. The richness of the colors used and the shape of the friezes translate a charming decora with an expressive narrative work.

J. VIEILLARD & CIE Manufacture, A rare dish decorated with Koi carp in Japanese style

This superb ornamental dish with a Japanese-style decor of koi carps was executed by the Jules Vieillard & Cie Manufacture in the 1870s. After the death of Jules Vieillard in 1868, the Jules Vieillard & Cie Manufacture, then the third largest ceramic factory in France, passed to his sons, Albert and Charles. The Vieillard brothers then developed new designs and shapes, launching a production of artistic faience intended to decorate the finest interiors.

Alfred-Emmanuel-Louis Beurdeley (attributed to) Pair of small porcelain jardinières with gilt-bronze mounts

Originally consisting of large square terracotta containers, orangery tubs were widely used during the reign of Louis XIV at Versailles to grow orange trees in gardens during the warm season and to move them indoors in winter. Costly miniature versions entirely in porcelain or bronze were produced at the time, intended to hold bulbs or other flowers and to serve as refined table decorations. The present examples are set on four-footed Rocaille-style gilt-bronze mounts and feature painted porcelain panels in the manner of the Sèvres manufactory. Laurel branches decorate the spandrels, and hinged handles are placed at the upper corners. Both the bronze work and the painted porcelain decoration—flowers on a white and celestial-blue ground—display a high level of finesse and craftsmanship. This elegant pair of small jardinières is attributed to Alfred-Emmanuel-Louis Beurdeley and was most likely intended for table ornamentation during important receptions.
