Antique Louis XVI mantel in Yellow marble

The sleek lines of this antique mantel are typical of the Louis XVI style. The straight jambs are decorated with filleted flutes and rise up to molded square framed rosettes. The front of the entablature also has a sober decor, with an interlaced design forming a frieze of circles. The straight lined shelf juts out above the mantel. The simplicity of this mantel is enhanced by the use of a variety of marble with a delicate yellow hue.

Pair of Régence style double dual-sided doors with roses

These two Régence style doors with two leaves were made in the late 19th century. They are adorned on the two sides with a beautiful paneled decoration framing on the center a flowery rose with acanthus leaves. The handles are also nicely decorated with chiseled motifs reminding of the Rococo style.

Paul MAZAROZ - Napoleon III style semi-circular paneled wall

Rare piece of woodwork known to Mazaroz, the wall is built around a central fireplace topped by a mirror set in a highly ornate architectural frame. The eclectic decorative style used is characteristic of the lavish works of the Second Empire. The woodwork bears a signature by Mazaroz. The year is inscribed on each side of the mantel: "Anno 1877". Mazaroz's character is atypical. A native of Lons-le-Saunier and a friend of the famous painter Gustave Courbet, Paul Mazaroz is a multi-faceted character. In addition to being a patron of the arts and a sculptor, he is also the author of sociological and economic essays. After joining Riballier's workshop in Paris, he became his partner by marrying his daughter in 1853. This collaboration led the Riballier-Mazaroz factory towards modernity. Indeed, Mazaroz discovered the use of machines in cabinet making during the Universal Exhibition of 1851, a technique practiced by the English. He was the first to adopt it in France and considered himself an "industrial artist". His desire to adapt to the progress of his time led him to publish a photographic collection of his creations rather than a simple catalogue of engravings. Supplier to Napoleon III, his company became one of the most prosperous industries of the Second Empire and the Third Republic.

Louis XVI style curved mantel with half columns carved in half statuary marble with bronze décor

This fireplace presents a combination of marble and bronze, which is characteristic of Louis XVI style. This fireplace’s shapes are simple and the lines are straight. This style uses sober colors, which is why the use of semi-statuary marble is appropriate. A semi-statuary marble signifies a marble that is almost homogeneously white with very few veins. The band is detailed with rectangular bronze pearl contours. At its center is a golden bronze flower motif. The flower is composed of acanthus leaves and round fruit that are dragged into a circular movement. The top of the legs uses the same motifs as the band and extends it with the bronze flower surrounded by pearls. The fireplace's legs are half-fluted columns and slim down to the base. Between the flutes intercalate wheat sprouts with field flowers. This reference to a rural nature mixed with antiquity is typical of the Louis XVI style. The cast iron interior echoes the fireplace’s mantel with wheat germs and field flowers over its entire surface. The upper part of the hearth features a fine Greek ornamental frieze.
